Africare Builds Maternal Home in Nimba

Sanniquellie, March 16 (LINA) – International NGO Africare has dedicated a modern maternal home it built in Duo-Tiayee, Yepea-Mah District in Nimba County, for use by eighteen catchment communities in the district.
Turning over the facility to the community people, Africare primary health officer, Lassana Jarbadeh, disclosed that the facility has seven bedrooms, latrine and bathroom and is the organization’s assistance towards reducing the high rate of maternal mortality in the Country.
Receiving the keys to the facility on behalf of the county administration, Nimba County Engineer Joseph Torrlon expressed appreciation to Africare for the project.
He urged citizens and health workers to preserve the facility by exercising care in its use.
In remarks at the ceremony, the officer-in-charge (OIC) of the Duo-Tiayee health facility, Rachel N. Kou, also thanked Africare for the project.
She disclosed that the Out-Patient Department (OPD) of the clinic treats over 100 patients and 35 pregnant women daily.
The project is owned by 18 towns with over 25,000 residents, she said.
Madam Kou also disclosed that the clinic has only three professional nurses, noting that this was a very serious constraint to be urgently addressed by bother County Health Team.
She then called on Nimba County Health Team for additional workers to keep the facility fully operational.
