Police Charge 7 For “Armed Robbery” In Bong

GBARNGA, September 6 (LINA) - The Bong County Police Detachment has charged and forwarded to the Gbarnga Magisterial Court seven persons allegedly linked to the recent armed robbery at the facilities of MNG-Gold in Kokoyah Statutory District.

MNG-Gold is a Turkish company engaged in mining gold in Bong County.

Those charged are Peter Smith, commonly known as "Gman", Alfred Kerkulah, Joseph Flomo, Gamor Jensen, Edwin Dahn, Sieh Kamara and Mervin Johnson.

According to the Crime Services Department, during an investigation it was established that the seven attacked the company's facilities and made away with several valuables.

The CSD said search operations are ongoing in the district to arrest three other persons who were part of the gang that attacked the MNG facilities.

Speaking to journalists recently in Gbarnga, MNG Government Relations Manager Ben Sayeh said the men were arrested after three robbery attacks that resulted to several losses to the company.

Sayeh said during the attacks, the robbers made away with several plastics of what was believed to be gold.

Mr. Sayeh said the men used single-barrel guns to carry out the robberies and were arrested with the guns.

According to Sayeh, the constant wave of armed robbery attacks on MNG-Gold facilities in Kokoyah could undermine the economy of Bong County because several employees of the company are afraid that they could be injured if the act continues.

The seven alleged armed robbers were arrested by some Emergency Response Unit officers who were temporarily assigned in the area by authorities of the Liberia National Police.
