UPP Vows To Win 2017 Polls

MONROVIA, September 6 (LINA) - The United People’s Party (UPP) has declared that it will win the presidency in the October 2017 presidential and general elections to “fix the country.”

A press release signed by UPP Secretary-General Michael C.G. George stated that UPP officials will not wait for elections after 2017, but start working in order to make the party a viable institution towards that cause.

The party issued the release Tuesday following a special session of UPP Executive Committee at its headquarters in Sinkor, during which a prominent Liberian businessman, MacDonald A. Wento, along with other prominent colleagues from the proposed Liberia Restoration Party (LRP), restored membership with the UPP.

The release quoted them as saying they were re-committing themselves to Phase 2 of the UPP progressive agenda which entails empowering the Liberian people for effective political and economic governance.

‘We are going to tell the Liberian people precisely how we are going to take the country to the next level by working on education; working on healthcare; working on creating more access roads across the country; and working on food security and productive job creation for the youth,” Wento added.

He called on UPP members to accept a new beginning and re-brand the Party, with everybody coming together on board.

During the re-admission ceremony, Wento recounted that UPP has a history, noting that it was the founding fathers of the party that gave light to what Liberians are enjoying today – the multi-party political system, the release indicated.

It said Wento proclaimed that UPP is the “mother” of many other parties, adding “we are going to reach to them and attract a lot of other parties because we cannot win alone.” 

He then called on all UPP members who have stayed away from the party to return home and “make the UPP great again.”
