“Shooting Incident In Bomi No Security Threat,” Cherue

MONROVIA, September 6 (LINA) – Liberia’s Justice Minister and Attorney General, Cllr. Fredrick Cherue, has said the recent shooting incident in Sass Town, Bomi County poses no security threat to the country.

Delivering an official report on the incident at the Ministry of Information regular press conference in Monrovia Tuesday, Cllr. Cherue said investigations conducted by all security agencies show that the alleged perpetrator was carrying out a shooting practice.

The Justice Minister said based on findings from the various security agencies that were analyzed, the culprit used a nine-millimetre pistol to shoot at five empty bottles he placed on a tree stump in the area.

He admonished Liberians not to panic because the country was not at risk as a result of the incident, noting that it was an isolated case.

“There is no need for citizens of Sass Town and Liberians in general to panic as investigation aimed at apprehending the culprit is ongoing," Minister Cherue stressed.

At the same time, Cllr. Cherue has clarified that the gun used is different from any of the arms used by servicemen.

It can be recalled that there was a shooting incident in Sass Town, Bomi County about a month ago which created panic among citizens across the country with many spreading rumors about what went wrong, causing panic around the country.

The incident prompted government to immediately launch an investigation into the situation to restore calm and bring the culprit to justice.
