Pres. Sirleaf Says Media Among ‘Most Powerful Forces’ In Society
MONROVIA, September 5 (LINA) - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has identified the media as “one of the most powerful forces” in any society.
According to an Executive Mansion release, President Sirleaf made the remarks at a memorial service on Saturday, September 3, at the Monrovia City Hall when she joined family members, relatives and friends of the late journalist Fanta Mamadee Diakite.
President Sirleaf said when the media is used wisely and responsibly, it can impact and benefit any society, noting that responsibility requires that one shows love for country.
She said Diakite will be remembered as a professional journalist and that when the story of Liberia is told, the name of Mamadee Diakite will not be forgotten because he made “tremendous contributions” to the media landscape.
She said as a professional journalist, the late Diakite stood for certain principles and will be remembered for the love of his country.
