Morais Pledges Senate’s Commitment To Resolving House Crisis
By Wilfred Gortor

MONROVIA, September 2 (LINA) - Maryland County Senator Dan Morias has said that the Liberian Senate will continue to remain engaged with members of the House of Representatives to ensure an amicable resolution of the ongoing crisis in the lower House.

Morias made the statement Thursday in a telephone conversation on the ELBC “Bumper Show.”

Morais applauded the mediatory role played by the Liberian Senate in the House crisis, and hoped that members of the lower House will see reason to maintain the sanctity of the august body.

Morais said the Liberian Legislature, being a bi-cameral one, cannot operate in isolation so both Houses need to work together to ensure that the job of the Liberian people is done.

Morais’ statement comes in the wake of the pronouncement by House Speaker Alex Tyler on Thursday recusing himself from presiding over the House of Representatives.

Tyler has come under intense pressure to recuse himself from presiding over the body in recent times by over 39 members of the House of Representatives as a result of his indictment on criminal charges occasioned by a report recently released by the international corruption watchdog Global Witness.

Tyler challenged the legitimacy of those calling for his recusal on grounds that his indictment does not in any way constitute conflict of interest or does not border on moral contradictions as perceived by those calling for his recusal.
