Pres. Sirleaf To Launch MSME Confab November

By Decontee M. Wesseh

MONROVIA, September 1 (LINA) - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf will launch the 4th Flagship Annual Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) conference at the Monrovia City Hall on November 15 this year.

Addressing the Ministry of Information press briefing Thursday, Deputy Commerce Minister for Small Business Administration, Andrew Paygar, said the conference will be held under the general theme: “From Vision to Implementation - Buying Liberian, Building Liberia” with focus on “Promoting Women Entrepreneurship for Economic Empowerment.”

According to Paygar, the conference is expected to be the largest conference since its inception in 2013.

He said the conference is an annual activity initiated in 2013 in response to four core challenges of MSMEs in Liberia, which he outlined as Access to Finance, Access to Markets, Legal and Regulatory Reform and Capacity Building.

He named some objectives of the Small Business Administration as changing the mindset of Liberian women to see entrepreneurship as a possible option for job creation and income, recommending alternative sources of investments for women-owned MSMEs, especially young start-ups.

Paygar said the conference is expected to provide business networking among conference stakeholders for strategic business connection and will inform and inspire Liberian-owned businesses to participate in the growth and development of the MSME sector.
