EU Trains Liberians In Bio-Chemical Waste Management
By Stephen N .Sonpon

MONROVIA, August 30 (LINA) –The European Union (EU) has begun a two-day training of the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) national team in hazardous chemicals and biological waste management in Liberia.

The training, which started at the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, August 29, and ends Wednesday, August 31, will provide participants the technical knowledge in mitigating hazardous chemical and biological waste in the country.

Speaking Tuesday at the opening of the training, the National Focal Person of the CBRN Governance Team, Prof. Martins Scott-Tabi, said the training is also intended to establish a list of experts from government and civil society who are aware of the challenges generated by the poor or inadequate management of these hazardous chemical waste materials.

He said the training is being facilitated by four EU experts under the EU (CBRN) Centers of Excellence of the African Atlantic Façade Region.

He indicated that the quest was enthused by the global increase in the CBRN distress ranging from the management of the biological and medical waste to the preservation and disposal of end life chemicals and explosives.

Scott-Tabi noted that the challenge is to integrate complementary skills in the management of chemical and biological waste management through awareness training in waste disposal at the national and regional levels in each beneficiary country.
