First-Ever Flood Stuns Bwehlay Residents

By S. Kannay Ziamo, LINA Nimba County Correspondent

GANTA, August 26 (LINA) – Residents of Bwehlay Town, Buu-yao District in Nimba County received the shock of their lives from the first-ever flood in the town that left several farms inundated and literally damaged.

The recent flood, according to a resident of the district who spoke to the Liberia News Agency (LINA) Thursday, was a result of heavy downpour in the area for several days.

Mr. Dickson Koyan told LINA that over sixty-five rice and vegetable farms in the town were destroyed.

Koyan said the residents, many of whom depend on agriculture for survival, are finding it difficult and are therefore calling on the government, NGOs and well-meaning individuals to assist them.

Koyan said the situation is strange to the people of the town as it is the first time that such a disaster has occurred in the area.
Bwehlay Town has a population of over 6,000, many of whom are farmers who produce mainly rice, vegetable and cocoa.
