Pres. Sirleaf In Nairobi For TICAD VI Summit

MONROVIA, August 26 (LINA) - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is in Nairobi, Kenya to participate in the Sixth Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD) scheduled for August 27-28.

According to an Executive Mansion release, the Sixth TICAD aims at identifying common priorities for accelerating sustainable development, including the growing role of the private sector in driving progress on the continent.

The TICAD process also seeks to cascade Africa’s vision of its own leadership and development.

The summit will also serve as an international platform to raise global awareness and ensure continued support for Africa’s development efforts, underpinned by the twin principles of international partnership and African ownership.

TICAD VI will be hosted by the Government of Kenya and co-organized by the Government of Japan, the U. N. Development Program, World Bank, African Union Commission and UN Office of the Special Advisor on Africa.

More than 6,000 participants are expected to be at the Nairobi conference that brings together African and Asian Heads of State and Government, representatives of the private sector, international organizations and civil society.

They will also discuss the implementation of the recently adopted Sustainable Development Goals and Africa’s Agenda 2063 that is focused on a peaceful, integrated and prosperous continent; economic growth, trade and investment; human security, peace and stability.

While, President Sirleaf is out of the country, Defense Minister, J. Brownie Samukai will chair the Cabinet in consultation with Vice President Joseph N. Boakai.
