Two Radio Station Officials Confirm Owing Gov’t
By Decontee M. Wesseh

MONROVIA, August 23 (LINA) - Two officials of the Sarafina Ventures and Communications Incorporated, owner of Radio LIB24 and Love TV shut down by the Civil Law Court, have confirmed being indebted to the Liberian government.

Madam Telia Urey, co-owner of Sarafina and Mr. Ashford Garley, Station Manager of Radio LIB24, however, alleged that government created bottlenecks that prevented them from paying license and other fees to it.

They were speaking at the headquarters of the Press Union of Liberia during a meeting Monday with Managing Editors, Publishers and Radio Station Managers in Monrovia.

Urey and Garley noted that they have always been willing and in the position to pay their license and other fees, but further alleged that the relevant government institutions have not been providing them the opportunity to make payments.

It can be recalled that the Civil Law Court recently shut down LIB 24 Radio Station, formerly Love FM, for allegedly using an expired license previously awarded to Sarafina Ventures and Communications Incorporated for the use of the 105.1 FM frequency.

Justice Ministry authorities accused Sarafina Ventures and Communications of failure to pay its license and other fees for over five years, claiming that several invoices were sent to Sarafina Ventures and Communications dating back to 2010.

Sarafina is reportedly indebted to government in the tune of over US$50,000.
