Osinbajo Proposes Liberia, Nigeria Economic Council

MONROVIA, August 23 (LINA) - Nigeria Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has proposed the setting up of an economic council that will bring Nigeria and Liberia closer.

Vice President Osinbajo pointed out that such a council would identify what the governments can do to benefit their two countries.

According to a release from the Office of the Vice President, the Nigerian Vice President made the proposal when Vice President Joseph N. Boakai, who is currently in Nigeria on an official visit, paid a courtesy call on him at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

In remarks, Vice President Boakai praised the Nigerian Government and people for the key role they played in resolving the Liberian civil crisis.

Nigeria was the key player in the deployment of the Economic Community of West African States Peace Keeping Force (ECOMOG) in Liberia at the height of the Liberian civil war.

It was the ECOMOG forces that helped to contain the war before the deployment of the UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) in the country in 2003.
