MONROVIA, August 23 (LINA) - Vice President Joseph N. Boakai has told the Save Democracy Group Africa-Youth Parliament Special Session convening in Abuja that young people in every nation are a very important component of national development.

VP Boakai also observed that their participation in national decision-making assures peace and stability.

He said the youth are not just future leaders, but are also leaders of the present in many areas and called on African youths who are eager to lead to exercise patience while acquiring the necessary experience to enable them lead tomorrow.

Vice President Boakai recounted his life story at the forum and challenged African youth to have confidence in themselves, stressing that they can achieve anything through hard work.

According to a dispatch from Abuja, Vice President Boakai made the comments Monday during the inauguration of the leadership of the Save Democracy Group Africa Youth Parliament and a Special Session on Nelson Mandela held in Abuja.

According to the Vice President, public service is a huge task that one has to be prepared for and called on African leaders to build legacies that will inspire young people as role models for the development of their respective nations and peoples.

The SDG-Africa Youth Parliament was initiated in line with the provision of the African Youth Charter known as the Banjul Declaration of July 2006 which serves as the continental framework, underlining the rights, duties and freedoms of the youth.
