Pres. Sirleaf Resubmits Letter To Majority House Members
By Wilfred Gortor

MONROVIA, August 23 (LINA) - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has resubmitted her letter to the plenary of the majority members of the House of Representatives, emphasizing her support to the body in its quest to fulfill national objectives.

"Let me reassure you of the fullest support of the Executive and my own commitment as you guide the work of the Honorable House of Representatives in meeting national objectives," the Liberian leader said in a letter addressed to Deputy House Speaker Hans Barchue, who presided over the group of 39 anti-Tyler lawmakers on Tuesday.

It can be recalled that President Sirleaf responded to a communication dated August 11 from Deputy Speaker Barchue with an attached resolution taken by majority members of the House who are calling on Speaker Alex Tyler to recuse himself from presiding over the body due to his recent indictment on criminal charges.

However, the communication from President Sirleaf was recalled for what the Executive Mansion referred to as "clerical errors involving the address, reference number and one typo".

It added: "Further action on this matter will be taken after a decision by the Supreme Court is taken on the matter."

The re-submission of the communication follows a ruling by Justice-in-Chamber Jamesetta Wolokolie on Tuesday in which she declined to issue the ‘Writ of Prohibition’ requested by Speaker Tyler against majority members of the House of Representatives.

In her first communication dated August 18, President Sirleaf assured the body that the Executive Branch of Government will honor and respect any lawful and constitutional act of the House of Representatives.

She hoped that in the wake of the prevailing circumstances, a constitutionally organized majority of the House will properly and swiftly attend to matters involving long-standing draft legislations and the 2016-17Annual Budget which are key to the nation’s Agenda for Transformation.
