“Don’t Settle For High School Diploma” - LTA Official
By Calvin Brooks

MONROVIA, August 22 (LINA) - A Commissioner at the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has challenged Liberian students not to settle for only high school diploma in their academic sojourn.

Henry Benson told students to see high school diploma as a foundation for higher education, which will ultimately position them to contribute significantly to the growth and development of Liberia.

He proffered the challenge Sunday at the 11th graduation exercises of the Liberia Dujar High School held at the New Life Ministry in the Monrovia suburb of Barnersville.

He noted that young people who seek tertiary education are mostly included in the leadership and policy-making processes of the country, rather than those who settle for just high school education.

He urged the students to prepare themselves adequately to face the challenges ahead, noting that leadership issue has been one of the problems confronting Africa.

Commissioner Benson also stressed the need for parents and guardians to encourage their children to pursue higher education through their sponsorship which, he noted, is vital to Liberia’s development.

In remarks earlier, the acting principal of the school, Morris T. Johnson, said academic year 2014-2015 was shortened as a result of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease which ravaged Liberia, but the school was able to navigate through the crisis.

Principal Johnson admonished the graduates to maintain good character as they enter the larger society while seeking to achieve their goals in life.
