Liberia Gets Lab To Determine Diseases - Nyenswah

MONROVIA, August 16 (LINA) – Deputy Health Minister for Disease Surveillance and Epidemic Control, Tolbert Nyenswah, says Liberia now has the laboratory capacity to test specimens to determine any diseases, including Ebola.

Deputy Minister Nyenswah made the disclosure Monday at the start of a two-day Public Workshop of the Committee on Clinical Trials during the 2014-2015  Ebola outbreak fourth Committee Meeting for Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone in Monrovia.

He maintained that the laboratory has afforded Liberia the capacity to test any specimen in less than an hour, compared to during the heat of the Ebola outbreak in 2014 when specimen had to be sent abroad for testing.

He indicated that the Ministry of Health has a Rapid Response Team in the various counties that has been trained to detect, prevent and respond to any outbreak of Ebola or any other infectious disease.

Meanwhile, Minister Nyenswah has disclosed that modalities have been worked out to ensure the establishment of a National Public Health Institute for Liberia.

The two-day workshop was organized by the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine based in the United States of America in collaboration with the Iberian Ministry of Health with participants from Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.
