LACC, LRA Sign MOU To Fight Corruption

MONROVIA, August 15 (LINA) -The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) and the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) have signed a memorandum of  understanding to established a formal framework to strengthen collaboration to probe corruption and related crimes within the LRA.

The memorandum was signed Friday, August 12, at a ceremony held at the head office of the LACC in Congo Town outside Monrovia.

The Executive Chairperson of the LACC, Cllr. James N. Verdier, Jr. and the Commissioner General of the LRA, Elfrieda Stewart Tamba, signed on behalf of their institutions.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Verdier and Tamba expressed optimism over the implementation of the MOU, and noted that the institutions can better achieve their common objectives when they collaborate.

The MOU said the LRA shall investigate acts and conduct believed to constitute corruption or the violation of any tax law of Liberia by any private individual or corporate tax payer with the complicity in LRA employees.

The LACC and LRA also agreed to designate one or more contractor/focal person (s) from each institution who will be responsible to coordinate all matters arising in the MOU, including processing and following up on communication and outstanding tasks.
