EPA Official Nudges Robust Protection Of Environment
By Calvin Brooks

MONROVIA, August 12 (LINA) - The Deputy Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says Liberia needs to react effectively to emerging unpredictable issues that require technical assistance to protect the environment.

Urias Goll stated that the environment can be protected if capacities are built and political consensus available to meet new dimensions in environmental policies in addressing environmental problems.

Goll made the call Thursday at the start of a two-day National Consultation on Additional Protocol to the Abidjan Convention on Environmental Norms and Standards, Sustainable Management of Mangrove held in Monrovia.

He indicated that the national consultative approach taken by the Abidjan Convention to address environmental impacts across the region and the success of the process will depend also on the capacity to mobilize the necessary resources to support activities.

He pointed out that Liberia desires leadership and guidance because this process needs to be successful in supporting national action which is the foundation of making progress on tackling environmental problems.

Goll emphasized that "environmental protection in Liberia will require greater accountability for making progress from all institutions,” noting that “they have to work together to set up a strong and transparent system to monitor implementation  and report on the results achieved across the country.
