Phebe Hospital Gets First Electronic Library

By Philip T. Singbah, LINA Bong County Correspondent

GBARNGA, August 10 (LINA) – Phebe Hospital in Suakoko District, Bong County has dedicated its first modern electronic library as part of upgrade of facilities.

The medical research library is named in honor of former Health Minister Dr. Walter T. Gwenigale for his invaluable contributions to the country's healthcare system.

Dr. Gwenigale was also a head of the hospital for many years.

Performing the dedication Monday, Health Minister Dr. Bernice Dahn praised former Minister Gwenigale for his vision to establish the library to further enhance studies and research in medical sciences at the hospital.

She explained that the facility will provide information for training and further help to expand the capacity of those working at the Phebe Hospital.

Dr. Dahn said establishment of the library is also in line with the ten-year strategic health plan crafted by the Ministry of Health to improve healthcare delivery in Liberia.

She committed the Health Ministry to providing the necessary materials and equipment to the Hospital to effectively manage the library.

Also speaking at the dedicatory ceremy, Dr. Gwenigale noted that the electronic library contains 10 computers, several medical journals and internet connectivity to also help in-training persons and conduct adequate research online.

The WHO Representative to Liberia, Dr. Alex Gasasira, said he was grateful to be a part of the history making venture which, he noted, contributes to Liberia’s healthcare development needs.

He said WHO will remain engaged with the health system of the country and will provide every necessary support to improve the sector.
