By S. Kannay Ziamo, LINA Nimba County Correspondent
GANTA, August 8 (LINA) - The head of the Project Management Committee (PMC) of Nimba County has claimed that the county has made “significant development gains” under his administration as chairman of the PMC.
In an interview with the Liberia News Agency in Sannuquillie Sunday, Peterson Walker, outlined several projects undertaken by the PMC, including the renovation and construction of city halls in Saclepea and Bahn.
He also cited the construction of chief compounds in over 20 towns, five commissioner compounds, several schools as well as rehabilitation of farm-to-market roads across the county and the construction of over 10 bridges.
According to Walker, funding for the projects came from the allotments made by the County Council over the years.
Funding for county projects comes mainly from the County Development Fund (CDF) and the Social Development Fund (SDF).
The CDF is an allotment of US$200,000 in the National Budget for development in each of the 15 counties, while the SDF is monies given by concessionaires in the counties as part of their corporate social responsibility.
Walker said with the level of collaboration from the county authority, the Nimba Legislative Caucus and citizens, the county is poised to benefit more in terms of development.
Meanwhile, the Nimba County PMC Chairman has disclosed that the county’s 22 earth-moving equipment will the transferred to Ganta, Saclepea and Sannuquillie cities later this month to begin operations in September.
He is, therefore, calling on residents of the three cities to cooperate with the county administration during the operations of the earth-moving machines.
