Court Detains Nigerian, 32, On Multiple Charges

MONR0VIA, August 4 (LINA) - The Monrovia City Court at the Temple of Justice has detained at the Monrovia Central Prison a 32-year-old Nigerian for alleged forgery, counterfeiting, criminal facilitation, economic sabotage and money laundering.

Defendant Onyeka Nnameni was on July 27 arrested at the Bo-Waterside Port of Entry on the Sierra Leone border in Grand Cape Mount County with L$200,000 counterfeit notes during regular border inspection.

Defendant Nnameni was on Wednesday arraigned before the court to answer to the charges levied against him.

The Police charge sheet indicated that the defendant was travelling from Sierra Leone to Monrovia with a single television in a red and white carton in which he concealed the L$200,000 in L$100 bills.

The Police charge sheet further stated that predicated upon the discovery of the fake bank notes, the defendant was arrested, informed of his rights and transferred to the central headquarters of the Liberia National Police on Capitol Hill in
Monrovia.

During police investigation, the charge sheet indicated, the defendant admitted to the crime.

He is detained awaiting court trial.
