Woman, 38, Jailed For Stealing US$17k From EcoBank

MONROVIA, August 3 (LINA) – The Monrovia City Court at the Temple of Justice has sent to jail 38-year-old Kunoh Sackor, a resident of Johnsonville community, on charges of misapplication of entrusted property and theft.

Defendant Sackor was on July 18 arrested by police based upon a complaint filed by Varney Kromah, a security investigator at the Internal Audit Agency for and on behalf of the management of the agency.

The defendant was on Tuesday arraigned before the court to answer to the charges levied against her, and informed of her rights. She was represented by Attorney James Kemah.

According to the Police charge sheet, the defendant, who was a Teller at the 5th Street branch of the bank in Sinkor, received US$17,087 from customers to be deposited into their individual accounts, but diverted the money to her personal use. 

The Police charge sheet indicated that after that suspect Sackor used other customers’ deposits to make a repayment and cover up the shortages accrued after she could not account for US$20,000.

The police said the defendant admitted to committing the crime during investigation.

She is detained awaiting court trial.
