Police Arrest Harbel Armed Robbery Leader - Spokesman
By Robert Dixon, LINA

MONROVIA July 20 (LINA) - Police Spokesman Sam Collins says the Liberia National Police (LNP) has arrested the ring leader of the February 10 armed robbery incident in Harbel, Margibi County, during which Police Chief Superintendent Susana Blackie and her 15-year-old daughter were shot.

He said the armed robbery incident resulted to injury of the right eye of the daughter of Chief Superintendent Blackie who herself sustained multiple bullet wounds.

According to Collins, armed robbery suspect Lawrence Logan, who has been on the run since the incident, was arrested by the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) and the Police Support Unit (PSU) after receiving a tip-off from residents of the community in which the incident occurred.

In an interview with the Liberia News Agency Wednesday, Collins said suspect Logan, who has been transferred to the headquarters of the Liberia National Police in Monrovia for interrogation, has admitted to his involvement in the robbery attack against Police Chief Superintendent Blackie, who is currently recovering from wounds sustained during the attack.

According to Collins, Police last February arrested one Ernest Quahgar in connection with the armed robbery incident and he has since been forwarded to court for prosecution.

Collins said the police will continue to step up its search for wanted armed robbers and other criminals in the Liberian society, and called on community dwellers to continue furnishing the police with the needed information that will lead to their arrest and subsequent prosecution.
