Health Ministry Launches Campaign To End ‘Snail Fever’

GBARNGA, July 11 (LINA) - The Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Ministry of Education Monday launched the Mass Drug Administration
Praziquantel treatment to prevent Schistosomiasis or snail fever in children between the ages of  5 -14 years in Gbarnga, Bong County.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Bong County Education Officer Edward Kpulun encouraged parents to take their children for the treatment to prevent bareness and liver-related diseases.

Kpulun described the snail fever as a threat to the future of Liberian children and called on all actors not to take the disease for granted.

He also called on principals and classroom teachers to enforce the drug administration by making sure that children take the free medical service.

In remarks, the Administrative Assistant to Bong County Superintendent, Joseph Urey, pledged the county administration’s support in ensuring the effective implementation of the drug administration.

Urey challenged the public to take advantage of the opportunity provided to avoid future illness.

Also speaking, the Administrator of the Bong County Health Team, Fatorma Jusu, said the Ministry of Health is committed to the process and will work with all parents to ensure successful conduct of the campaign.

The launching ceremony was attended by representatives of UNICEF, Ministry of health, World Health organization, Ministry of Education, the religious community, among others.
