Child Advocate Urges Investment In Girls’ Education
By Calvin Brooks, LINA

MONROVIA, July 11 (LINA) - The Speaker of the Liberian Children Representative Forum has challenged policy makers to put tangible mechanisms in place to invest in girls’ education.

Speaker Satta Sheriff stated that girls are vital to the socio-economic development of Liberia and hence they should be given the opportunityto enhance their potential in education.

She made the statement Monday at a program marking World Population Day organized by the Liberian government in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) held in the auditorium of the University of Liberia on Capitol Hill.

Sheriff noted that girls in Liberia are confronted with several social issues, ranging from rape, abuses and sexual exploitation which have resulted to an alarming rate of teenage pregnancy in the sub-region.

She explained that investing in girls will go a long way in transforming the development pattern of Liberia in the near future, noting that girls are also critical in the rebuilding process of the nation.

Sheriff emphasized that all programs designed to foster the development of girls in Liberia should be implemented in practical terms, rather than mere policy documents yet to be implemented.
