Liberia States Position On South China Sea

MONROVIA, July 11 (LINA) Following with keen interest recent developments in the South China Sea, the Government of Liberia believes that all disputes should be resolved through peaceful negotiations between the parties concerned and in accordance with international law.

According to a Foreign Ministry release, Liberia’s Foreign Minister Marjon Kamara, in a letter to her counterpart, the Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Wang Yi, said no party involved in this matter will gain from a dispute, as countries in the region are closely intertwined by trade and proximity.

She said the Government of Liberia respects the Government of China’s position of optional exceptions pursuant to Article 298 of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and will continue to support constructive international efforts that are aligned with the aspirations of each region to safeguard regional peace and stability.
