Inadequate Funding Major Challenge At NBC, Says Official

MONROVIA July 10 (LINA) - The Deputy Director General for Concessions at the National Bureau of Concession (NBC), Ramses Kumbuyah, has observed that inadequate funding is a major challenge facing the bureau in implementing programs and projects.

He noted that the budget allocations to the bureau normally are for salaries and administrative costs, leaving the concessions monitoring and evaluation aspect unfunded, a release from NBC said recently.

Kumbuyah also expressed the need for staff capacity building, hiring of experts to assist in the attainment of quality work output and logistics to make the bureau more effective.

He emphasized that effective concession compliance monitoring can only be achieved if the bureau is adequately funded to execute its programs and projects, and called on the government and partners to lend their support.

The release also quoted House Committee Chairman on Investments and Concessions, Eugene Fallah  Kparkar, as assuring NBC of his committee’s fullest support in enhancing the bureau’s viability.

 “NBC needs to be clear about its scope of activities as per its mandate as well as financial needs of the bureau for legislative approval,” he added.
