VP Boakai Donates 500 Bags Of Rice To Margibi Flood Victims

MOROVIA, July 5 (LINA) –Vice President Joseph Boakai has presented 500 bags of rice and one thousand sacks of water to flood victims in Lower Margibi.

VP Boakai said more assistance will be provided following an assessment to identify the flood victims and impact of the disaster.

The Vice President visited Dolo and Jobloe Towns, two worst hit areas, the rice and water will be distributed to other affected communities.

Inhabitants in the areas thanked VP Boakai for the visit, saying the Vice President has always identified with the people of Margibi in difficult times and recalled similar visits made during the Ebola Crisis.

The Vice President reminded residents of the dreadful effect of Climate Change and cautioned them against building structures in waterways and alleys.

In Dolo Town, Commissioner Augustus Karngar attributed the flooding to the lack of a culvert to control the path of three rivers in Lower Margibi.

He named the rivers as Yormie, Duwue and Farmington that converge on an island. He said over six thousand residents are now displaced because of the situation.

Earlier, Margibi Representative Ballah Zayzay said two deaths have so far been reported.
