Shannon Challenges Marketers To Keep Markets Clean
By Calvin Brooks, LINA

MONROVIA, July 3 (LINA) - The former Director General of the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS), Madam Olivia Shannon, has challenged Liberian marketers to create decent market places rather than sell their goods in filth.

She stated that Liberian market women should add value to their businesses and not take them for granted, noting that they should develop attractive surroundings to woo buyers.

The former LBS official was speaking when 259 market women from the Jorkpen Town, Paynesville and ELWA markets graduated from the Sirleaf Market Women Fund Adult Literacy Program during a ceremony held in the Monrovia suburb of Congo Town.

She indicated that Liberian marketers are highly respected among their colleagues  in West Africa, because there are more women in markets in Liberia compared to other countries in the sub-region, a position which they need to value.

She explained that it is unfortunate that some women continue to sell their greens, pepper and other items on the ground which, she noted, is not decent and also has health implications on the people.s

Shannon stressed that market women should stop selling their goods on the ground to avoid infections, noting that they should begin to sell vegetables and other items on tables which will protect food items.
