Bomi Citizen Wants County Prioritize Sanitation

By David Pamas Seedee, LINA Bomi County Correspondent

TUBMANBURG, June 28 (LINA) - An environmentalist from Dewein District in Bomi County is calling on authorities of the county to prioritize the construction of latrines and hand pumps to improve the sanitary condition of residents.

Boima Siryon Sando said when the health condition of the people is good, they will be able to help in the development drive of the county.

Sando made the call in the district recently when broke ground to construct a latrine and hand pump in Manjama Town in Dewein District.

He noted that while it is good to construct other infrastructures across the county, the building of public latrines and hand pumps is important and as such, the health and safety of the people should be considered the first priority in the county.

The environmentalist and former employee of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) observed that about 80 percent of towns and villages in the county lack latrines and hand pumps, leaving the citizens exposed to unhealthy conditions.

According to him, the latrine and hand pump which is worth US$3,500 will be completed in two weeks and will be dedicated before July 26, the nation’s independence anniversary.
