Nimba, Grand Gedeh Elders To Hold Peace Talks

SANNIQUELLIE, June 19 (L(NA) -The Chairman of the Chiefs and Elders Council of Nimba County, Chief Peter Barlon, has disclosed that elders of Nimba and Grand Gedeh Counties are expected to hold peace talks this year.

The two sides built friendly ties several years back until the1990 civil crisis that created political and security suspicion that weakened the traditional ties between the two neighbors.

Speaking to the Liberia News Agency in Sanniquellie recently; Chief Barlon said the planned meeting will help cement the relationship between the two counties, giving a promising future to a peaceful political landscape for the neighboring provinces to co-exist.

He also revealed that an estimated 150 Chiefs of Nimba will gather in Garplay, Twah River District in Nimba County from June 17 to19, to draw delegates and set a timetable for the Nimba-Grand Gedeh Traditional Peace deal.
