Labor Ministry Generates Over $3.2m Revenue

MONROVIA, March 11 (LINA) - The Labor Ministry has reported revenue generation of over US$3.2 million and more than LD$190,000, in fees from alien work permits processing and fines, in 2013.
According to its 2013 annual report, the Alien Registration and Liberianization Division work permit processing raised US$3,271,000 and an additional LD$190,570 from alien work permit processing for the period under review.
Of the amounts, the Division raised US$158,725 as fines imposed on businesses and institutions that violated labor practices and laws of Liberia during 2013.
According to the report, the Division processed a total of 3,537 work permits in three categories-Regular, Gratis, and ECOWAS last year.
Of the total number of work permits processed in the year under review, 2,955 were regular, 417 Gratis and 165 processed for aliens who requested for ECOWAS work permits, the report reveals.
Meanwhile, according to the report, the Division received and cancelled 372 application letters of alien work permits 2013.
