NBC, Stakeholders Brainstorm On Monitoring Strategy

MONROVIA, June 14 (LINA) - Liberia will host a two-day workshop on Improving National Bureau of Concessions (NBC) Visibility for Concessions Compliance Monitoring.

The workshop takes place from June 21-22 in Gbarnga, Bong County and is sponsored by USAID-GEM, according to the NBC Communication Coordinator T. Nicholas Faryombo.

He said the NBC workshop is intended to bring around the table stakeholders in government, concessionaires, development partners, civil society organizations, concession-affected communities and NBC staff to discuss and advance solutions to some of the issues facing the monitoring of concession.

Faryombo indicated that participants are expected to make presentations in the core Sectorial areas of concessions, including Mining, Forestry, Agriculture, and Public Private Partnership, among others.

A press release quotes Faryombo as saying that the workshop will enable concessionaires advance suggestions in working with the communities and providing the enabling environment for concessions to operate.

He noted that the CSOs and representatives of communities will advance suggestions as to how the land tenure problem can be resolved in the concession area.

He explained that the Inter-Ministerial Concessions Committee (IMCC), Concession Granting Entities (CGEs), the Legislature and media will also advance strategies as to how they can increase cooperation, coordination and collaboration, thereby enhancing networking among stakeholders in the concession process and create a forum for uninterrupted dialogue.
