NAVAP Appeals For Support To War Victims

By S. Kannay Ziamo, LINA Ganta, Nimba County Correspondent

GANTA, June 7 (LINA) -The Executive Director of the National War Veterans Association and Assistance Program (NAVAP) is appealing to government and partners to support Liberians victimized by the 14-year civil crisis.

“Government can help by providing them technical and vocational training, employment opportunities and financial support for their members who are unable to work and support themselves due to their condition," Harris Konah told the Liberia News Agency over the weekend.

Konah stated that those affected by the war are faced with many challenges that need to be addressed by the government and its partners, adding, "We too are citizens and need help."

He noted that he lack of programs that would make war victims busy and
important and help reintegrate them in the society has the potential to make them wayward.

Konah stated that some of those who were traumatized as a result of the war have now become criminals terrorizing peaceful citizens.

He added: "When these people are busy and reintegrated into society,
armed robbery and other criminal activities in the country will
reduce."

The National War Veterans Association and Assistance Program was set up in 1995 to coordinate the affairs of war-affected people in Liberia.
