VOINJAMA,  June 4 (LINA) - The Mitigating Local Disputes in Liberia (MLDL), a US Department of State-funded program has held a four-day Community Forum Leadership Capacity Building Training in Zorzor District, Lofa County.

The training brought together 20 participants from Bong and Lofa counties.

According to the MLDL Chief of Team for Liberia, Marti Troy, the MLDL program seeks to build the capacities of Community Forums, including District and County Security Councils in Lofa, Bong, Nimba and Grand Gedeh counties.

Districts in Lofa in which the MLDL program is being implemented include Zorzor, Voinjama and Foya.

The MLDL Liberia Chief of Team said in the face of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) drawdown, all Liberians need to get involved in maintaining security in the country.

She cautioned participants to spread in their localities what they have learnt and handle security issues arising in their communities responsibly.

Madam Troy noted that Liberia’s peace depends on Liberians and as such, they need to cherish and maintain the peace they now enjoy.

She said the aim of the MLDL program is to capacitate community dwellers in handling their own security issues to avoid conflict.
