Over 1,000 Gbehlay Geh Residents Get Free Medical Treatment
By Wellington G. Patrick, LINA Sanniqullie, Nimba County Correspondent

SANNIQUELLIE, June 4 (LINA) - About 1,000 residents of Gbehlay-Geh Statutory District in Nimba County have received free medical treatment from the County Health Team (CHT), through its “Free Medical Outreach Program.”

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Collins Boah told the Liberia News Agency in the district recently that the program was organized by the CHT to help citizens residing in remote areas to access free treatment opportunities.

Dr. Boah said the CHT Medical Outreach program earlier visited seven communities, including Gbi, Doru and Yarwin Mehnsonnoh.

He revealed that the Outreach in Gbehlay Geh Statutory District was sponsored by the International Rescue Committee (IRC).

According to him, about 1,500 patients turned out to receive treatment, but the team was able to treat a little over 1,000 due to time constraint.

He also disclosed that the outreach targets people with minor diseases such as urinary tract infections, malaria, inflammation of the body, respiratory infection, and pneumonia, among others.

The Nimba County Chief Medical Officer explained that during the outreach, patients with surgical cases were transported to the nearby government hospital for surgery, while two patients who had severe surgical problems were referred to the George Way Harley Hospital where the surgery was successfully performed.

Meanwhile, he is calling on citizens of the targeted areas to make use of the program by going to the designated sites on time to enable the team treat as many patients as possible.
