MoE To Retire 4 DEOs In Nimba

GANTA, June 4 (LINA) - The Ministry of Education will this month retire four District Education Officers (DEOs) in Nimba County, having rendered 25 years of service to the ministry and reached 60 years of age and above.

The ministry’s Regional Officer, George S.S. Wuo, made the disclosure on a local radio station in Ganta, Nimba County via mobile phone from Monrovia Friday.

Wuo did not disclose the names of the retirees, but added that they have already received their letters from the ministry informing and appreciating them for their commitment and services during their periods of employment.

He clarified, in the wake of mounting speculations, especially from the National Teachers’ Association of Liberia (NTAL), that retiring those employees or all other employees is not a calculated scheme to sack them due to lack of qualification.

“But it is a very important program intended for aged and long-service employees to take a rest while at the same time creating an opportunity for qualified young people to have access to employment,” he added.

According to Wuo, it is the Civil Service Agency, not the Education Ministry that comes up with the names of those to be retired as is the case of the four that are slated to be retired this month.
