Labor Ministry On Career Selection Awareness Nationwide

SANNIQUELLIE, June 2 (LINA) - The Ministry of Labor has embarked on a nationwide Awareness On Career Selection.

The exercise is organized to aid Liberian students in making better career choices that will subsequently strengthen the academic and technical skills of pupils during their studies at the secondary school level.

Speaking to school kids of the Sanniquellie Statutory District at one of the ministry’s Career Awareness programs Thursday at the Nimba County Community College, the National Coordinator of the Bureau of Employment, George Saah, said "choosing a career is a major gateway to job placement for young students, and must be taken seriously by parents and state leaders."

"In the past, career development was not considered by Liberians, making high school graduates an unproductive group unable to contribute to the society," Saah added, noting, “As a result students remain mere burden to parents up to higher learning levels.”

Saah also said lack of skills is a major factor responsible for the high rate of unemployment in Liberia today, adding: “Obviously no company would want to work with unskilled people.”

“To properly handle best career needs of the state, the government has planned to deploy career counselors at every secondary school to work with students in making their career choices,” he said.
