MIA, Stakeholders Discuss Local Government Act
By Wellington G. Patrick, LINA Sanniquellie, Nimba County Correspondent

SANNIQUELLIE, June 2 (LINA) -The Ministry of Internal Affairs Thursday embarked on discussion of the Local Government Act in Sanniquellie, Nimba County under the title: “A Dialogue between County Legislative Caucus and County Administration.”

The dialogue, which is being held under the theme: “Decentralization, a new way to serve Liberia,” ends Friday, June 3.
According to Deputy Internal Affairs Minister Stephen Neufville, the dialogue will look at why it is important for Liberians to support their lawmakers to pass the
Local Government Act currently before the National Legislature.

The dialogue will also review the significance of the County Service Centers and the economic and political benefits of decentralization to the Liberian population, Neufville added.

The forum gathers the Commissioners of the 17 Administrative Districts of the county as well as educators, civil society groups and students.

Neufville noted that the dialogue will look at how the Project Management Committee, County Administration and Nimba Legislative Caucus are collaborating to ensure that the County Development Fund (CDF) and the Social Development Fund (SDF) are being used on projects that interest the local citizens.

He said the Management of the SDF and CDF are captured under the decentralization program to review, share experiences and work on errors.
