BUCHANAN, June 1 (LINA) - A 52-year-old woman identified as Martha Kollie has been discovered dead in Gboyah Town, Marloh Township, District #2,Grand Bassa County.

According to residents, the late Martha went to work early Saturday morning at the Marble and Granite mining site where she cooks for the miners.

She is believed to have been killed in the evening hour on Saturday, May 28, while returning home after work. The body was discoveredon Sunday by residents of the town and the police.

Some residents of the town alleged that she was killed by her husband Sackie Kollie while en route from work on Saturday evening during a heavy downpour of rain.

The husband is said to have threatened to kill the woman on several occasions, and since the incident Sackie has been on the run.

Sackie and the late Martha were together as husband and wife since 2012 but had no child.

The late Martha’s daughter, who is also married in the same town, refused to speak to the Liberia News Agency on Monday, May 30, because she was mourning her mother.

According to Gboyah Town Chief Isaac Kermue, Sackie came from District #4 in Grand Bassa County and settled in the town where he met and married the late Martha and both of them have been involved in farming activities since then.

According to the 15-man Jury set up by the Crime Services Department of the Liberia National Police (LNP), comprising some family members, Martha was gruesomely murdered.

The body has been turned over to the family for burial.

The family accepted it, but wants government to conduct a thorough investigation into the death of the late Martha Kollie.

The LNP has launched an investigation into the matter to bring the perpetrator to book.
