Nimba Lawmaker Debunks Scraps Sale Report
By S. Kannay Ziamo, LINA Ganta, NImba County Correspondent

GANTA, June 1 (LINA) - Nimba County District #5 Representative Samuel Kogar has described as “false and misleading” reports that the government is planning to sell scraps deposited by the erstwhile LAMCO JV Company that operated in the county.

The reports added that government is also contemplating using the proceeds of the sale to pave the Ganta-Sanniquellie-Yekepa road.

Kogar told the Liberia News Agency in an interview Wednesday that the scraps are safe, noting that all is being done to sell them, and that money realized from the sale will be used for the good of the county and its people.

It can be recalled that in March 2012, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf turned over the scraps deposited in Yekepa to the people of Nimba to be sold and proceeds used for development in the county.

Kogar indicated that while it is true that there was internal wrangling over the sale of the scraps, there has been no formal information from the government or the President to have the scraps turned over to central government for sale.

"Since my inception as Secretary of the Nimba Legislative Caucus, no information has reached me or any member of the caucus concerning the sale of our scraps by government," Kogar pointed out.
