Nimba Lawmaker Wants Speaker Tyler Step Aside
By S. Kannay Ziamo,  Ganta, Nimba County Correspondent

GANTA, June 1 (LINA) – A representative of Nimba County is calling on Mr. J. Alex Tyler to step aside as Speaker of the House of Representatives until he can exonerate himself from allegations of bribery in the recent Global Witness report.

Representative Samuel Kogar noted that with alleged corruption charges still hanging over Speaker Tyler, the credibility of the House of Representatives will be brought to question if he continues to steer the affairs of that august body.

According to the Nimba County lawmaker, it is more prudent for the Speaker to temporarily leave his post and focus on clearing himself from the corruption charges, stressing, "The Speaker's temporary leave will add more respect to him and fellow colleagues of the National Legislature."

Kogar indicated that it is good for members of the House of Representatives as the direct representatives of the people who are checkmating other branches of government, to always set good examples on things they want to see happen in the country.

Rep. Kogar was speaking Wednesday when he called Radio Kergheamahn in Ganta during a phone-in talk show discussing national issues.

The Nimba lawmaker said he is lobbying with fellow colleagues to ensure that the Speaker temporarily steps aside as his involvement in two corruption sagas in less than three years does not give him the moral standing to preside over sessions of the House.

Rep. Kogar clarified that his call for the Speaker to recues himself from sessions until the completion of the case is in no way political, but intended to protect the integrity of the House of Representatives.
