SANNIQUELLIE, May 29 (LINA) - The government and partners have launched in Sanniquellie, Nimba County the rehabilitation and supply of pipe borne water to over 100,000 city residents in three counties.
The Liberia municipal water project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is designed to improve the capitals of rural cities in Liberia.
The projec which cost about US$26 million is expected to supply clean, potable and cheaper water to 90 percent of citizens living in Voinjama, Lofa County; Robertsport, Grand Cape Mount County and Sanniquellie, Nimba County.
Speaking at the occasion, the Mission Director, USAID-Liberia, Anthony S. Chans, said the project will this year facilitate water supply to at least 3,000 people in Sanniquellie and to about 1,000 households by 2017.
He indicated that public hand pumps will be installed at different localities in the city to supply water to residents.
The Chairman of the Nimba office of the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC), Mark Tomah, told reporters that minimum fees will be charged per container, adding that funds collected will be used to maintain the facilities across the city.
