OIC Appeals For Maternity Waiting Center In Dewein District
By David Pamas Seedee, LINA Bomi County Correspondent
TUBMANBURG, April 20 (LINA) - The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Jenneh # 3 Community Health Center in Dewein District, Bomi County, Joseph Kanneh, is appealing to the County Health Team (CHT) and the Ministry of Health to construct a maternity waiting facility at the center.
OIC Kanneh noted that when the facility is constructed, pregnant women who are expected to give birth at anytime will be given the opportunity to stay there.
In an interview with the Liberia News Agency in Jenneh # 3 Compound recently, Kanneh said it will also enable health workers at the facility to monitor the expectant mothers until the time to deliver their babies.
According to OIC Kanneh, the facility will play a key role in curtailing pregnant women giving birth in the communities or on their way to the health center.
He said the Jenneh # 3 Community Health Center is strategically located where people from Montserrado County, especially the Po River belt, always go for medical attention.
Kanneh said looking at the location of the facility and the growing number of patients who seek medication there, especially pregnant women, Government should construct the maternity waiting center as soon as possible to save lives.
He said the health facility attends to 45 patients daily, including pregnant women and emergency cases.
It also treats patients with problems like malaria, diarrhea, HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis, among others.
