HARPER, March 10 (LINA) -The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General, Madam Karin Landgren, has said that the United Nations is proud to see what Liberia is today, after ten years of peace in the country.
Madam Landgren said the whole world is using Liberia as an "amazing success story for her present democratic governance".
The UN SRSG made the assertion on Monday in Harper, Maryland County, where she led a six member UN delegation on an official visit.
At a brief ceremony held at the Superintendent's office, the UN envoy challenged Liberians to work harder to sustain the peace and brace themselves for future challenges.
She also urged women to participate in both local and national affairs to enhance the country's emerging democracy.
In remarks, the County Superintendent Madam Nazarene B. Tubman commended SRSG Landgren for the visit, which she described as “historical.”
Superintendent Tubman also praised the UNMIL Contingent in Maryland County for not only keeping the peace, but going beyond peacekeeping to engage in development project in the county.
She said UNMIL is involved in the protection of life and property in the county, adding that the county has enjoyed the partnership of UNMIL, since it was deployed there some ten years ago.
