Nigerian Gets 3-Years for forging public records

MONROVIA, Nov 17 (LINA) -A Nigerian national, Michael U. Roberts has been sentenced to three years imprisonment at the Monrovia Central Prison for forgery and tempering with public records.

A release from the Ministry of Justice said Roberts was jailed for violating Section 15.70 and Section 12.34 of the Penal Code of Liberia and was also fined US$150.00.

According to the release, the pronouncement was made November 14 in a ruling by Judge Peter W. Gbenewelleh at the Criminal Court “C” of Montserrado County.

The release explained that Roberts entered into a 10-year lease agreement with one Mr. Stephen Clark, a Curator of the Monthly Probate Court of Montserrado County, for and in respect of a portion of the Mendscole Property which houses the Duala Market.

The release said having entered into the lease agreement, Roberts proceeded to forge same by changing the area of the land and the number of years from 10 to 20 years.

The release said on the strength of the forged lease agreement, Roberts decided to claim the entire Duala Market and began Building structures and harassing the marketers.
