UNMIL Official Vouches For Women Empowerment

KAKATA, March 9 (LINA) - A Human Rights Officer with the UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) is calling for the more empowerment of Liberian women for the betterment of their lives.

Mr. Harry Evans said Liberian women are an integral and important co-partner in any sphere of society and as such their full inclusion in national affairs and economic empowerment cannot be over emphasized.

According to the Liberia News Agency, Mr. Evans made the statement Saturday at the Liberty Assembly of God Church in Kakata when he delivered the keynote address at programs marking the observance of International Women’s Day.

He further stated that women are “great transformers” of a nation in the world and their honoring in this form was a worthwhile mention.

For her part, the Gender Coordinator of Margibi County, Mrs. Danielette Daniels- Asilton called on women to remain more engaged with their male counterparts to ensure total achievement of women empowerment.

Mrs. Asilton assured that with collective efforts the goals of women universal empowerment will be met.

This year’s International Women’s Day was observed on the global theme “Equality for Women is Progress for All,” while the national theme was “Mentoring for Transformation.”
