Two Ebola Cases, One Death In Liberia

By Stephen N. Sonpon, LINA

MONROVIA, April 5 (LINA) - Deputy Health Minister Tolbert Nyenswah has reported two new confirmed Ebola cases with 91 contacts established thus far in the country.

“Of the two confirmed cases, one is the deceased 30-year-old mother whose five- year-old boy also came down with the virus and is reportedly responding to treatment at the ELWA II Ebola Treatment Unit (ETU) outside Monrovia,” Nyenswah added.

According to Nyenswah, who is also head of the Incident Management System at the health ministry, the 91 contacts are being monitored daily with contact tracing also continuing in an attempt to respond to suspicious cases.

“We have the situation under control and the public does not need to panic as our health sector is filled with the capacity to respond to the current situation,” Nyenswah told the Ministry of Information press briefing Tuesday in Monrovia:

It can be recalled that a 30-year-old woman was on April 1 tested and
confirmed positive with the Ebola virus at the Redemption Hospital on Bushrod Island where she died upon arrival.

Nyenswah is urging residents to carry on their normal businesses while at the same time observing best Ebola preventive practices.

He has expressed optimism that the five-year-old will recover from the disease as he is being treated with the ZMapp drug.

Since March 2014, this is the third flare-up of the deadly Ebola disease in Liberia, which has claimed the lives of over 4,500 citizens and foreign residents.
