Taylor Urges Rivercess Women To Join 2017 Political Race
By Toegar Christian Chea, LINA Rivercess County Correspondent

CESTOS CITY, April 4 (LINA) -The Chairperson of the Women Legislative Caucus has called on Rivercess County women to challenge their male counterparts in the 2017 General and Presidential Elections for equal representation at the National Legislature.

Speaking at the Cestos City Hall at the weekend, Bong County Senator Jewel Howard Taylor said over the years women have been left behind, noting that it is now time to walk beside their male counterparts.

She said women were created from the ribs of men and not from their back, adding “so it is time to be working together to have a better Liberia.”

Taylor said women can make better leaders in government, and cited herself as an example after winning two senatorial elections in Bong County in 2005 and 2014.

The lawmaker urged women of Rivercess to support female candidates in the two electoral districts as the county is without a female lawmaker in the lower and upper Houses.

Taylor said the 30 percent of women representation in parliament is a key factor that will improve the lives of many Liberians.

She pledged her partnership with the county’s Senator Francis S. Paye for the construction of a Women Hall in Cestos City.

She made the pledge after the President of the Rural Women Structure of Rivercess, Teta Lloyd, complained about the lack of a meeting venue for rural women in the county.
