Margibi Reactivates Emergency Response Team

MONROVIA, April 1 (LINA) - In the wake of the confirmed case of the Ebola Virus Disease at the Redemption Hospital in Monrovia, the Margibi County Health Team has reactivated its Emergency Response Team.

Deputy Health Minister Tolbert Nyenswah on Fridayconfirmed the death of a 30-year-old woman identified as Mae Kollie who was transferred from the Ma Watta Clinic on Du-Port Road in the Monrovia suburb of Paynesville to the Redemption Hospital.

Margibi acting County Health Officer, Dr. Adolphus T. Yeah, said he has ordered all health partners to fully collaborate as in the past when there were cases of Ebola in the country.

Dr. Yeah said Margibi County is “very vulnerable” and that with the latest outbreak of the Ebola virus in Monrovia, which lies about 30 kilometers from Margibi, it is incumbent upon the County Health Team to ensure that it does not spread to the county.

Dr. Yeah made the statement Friday at the County Health Team Emergency Operations Center (EOC) when he held a meeting with health partners operating in Margibi County.

He said they have reactivated all response components in the county, including case searchers, setting up health checkpoints at entries into the county, community monitoring and mobilization as well as temperature taking, among others.

Margibi was one of the hardest hit by the deadly Ebola virus during the height of the outbreak which claimed more than 4,000 lives in Liberia, including health workers mainly at the C. H. Rennie Memorial Hospital in Kakata.

Dr. Yeah said as a result of the latest resurgence, the Margibi County Health Team will hold meetings thrice weekly until the latest flare-up is contained.
